Here’s an easy, low-cost SEO trick that actually WORKS…

By Brett Lloyd Abbott, MYM Austin Inc.              seo

seo trickI was only half-joking when I said “The best way to make sure you show up at the top of Google is FIRST, make sure that you are at the top of Google.”

(It was a takeoff on the old Steve Martin joke: “I’m going to write a new book, called ‘How to Be a Millionaire.’  First, get a million dollars.”)

As with most good humor, it’s funny because it’s mostly true. If you’re a brand-new company coming online, it’s going to take a tremendous amount of posts and articles and links and “likes” and activities and whatnot before Google thinks you are even remotely significant compared to the other guy who’s been around for 30+ years.

That’s why I LOVE this particular SEO trick.
Because it’s quick, it’s easy,
and it’s really not a trick at all.

You may not know this, but in the United States, every business has at least 50 free online listings on all kinds of reputable websites such as Yahoo, Bing, WhitePages, MapQuest, Local.com, and many more. And every time one of those websites (1) mentions your name and phone number, and (2) points over to YOUR website, you get a little “bump” in SEO love from Google. (This is one of the few SEO algorithm metrics that Google will actually (1) publicly admit and (2) openly encourage.)

On the other hand, if your listings are NOT accurate, then this will HURT your Google rankings. (Yes, Google actually pays attention to such things as “conflicting listings online.”) It also confuses real people (potential buyers) when they see conflicting company names, addresses, or phone numbers. So no doubt about it, having incomplete or conflicting online listings is a very bad thing.

Errors could be a result of any of the following happening in the last 20 or 30 years:

  • You moved locations.
  • You changed phone numbers.
  • You changed your website URL.
  • You Changed or modified your company name in any way.
  • You (or your web people) never properly submitted your company to search engines in the first place.

Are Your Online Directory Listings ACCURATE?
Run this 60-second test to find out for FREE!

directory listingThis FREE test will tell you EXACTLY how your listings are showing up right now, and WHERE you are MISSING, and where you have ERRORS. And it takes less than a minute!

So give it a whirl. What have you got to lose, other than about 60 seconds?

NOTE – If the test finds two or three errors, you can go to those directory websites and try to update the listings yourself. If you find 20 or 30 errors (or god forbid, more than 50), then you may want to take advantage of our “Directories Update” service. For a one-time fee of $599, we will make sure that all of your online listings are accurate.  You can do that instantly right here.
